ISS

During the flight ofSTS-92/Discovery theZ-1 Truss and PMA-3 were installed on theISS.  The goals of the flight were being met on time, and in good order.  Due to what NASA claimed were "technical difficulties", normally seen KU-Band full motion TV downlink was "lost" around seven hours into the mission.  Save for a snippet of KU-Band here and there when Discovery was over a ground based tracking station, almost all of the downlink TV was of the herky-jerky slide show variety. On the morning of 19 October 2000, between 3:54 AM CST, and 4:47 AM CST, a series of  four dumbfounding events took place.  The crew were asleep, and nothing was going on to speak of.  It was the dark of the Moon as well.  NASA were running the S-Band downlink intermittently, and a visual inspection of the exterior of the ISS was being done.   The first anomaly was seen during one of these S-Band sequences.  The second event was observed some twenty minutes later, after the hourly replay of "Flight Day Highlights".   Fourteen minutes later, yet another appearance of what seemed to be the same object, manifested itself over the east coast of southern Argentina.  Finally, after crossing the South Atlantic ocean, a mysterious shadow passed over Shuttle Discovery as it neared the western coast of South Africa.  All in all, a very strange, busy hour indeed.

Below are arranged some still shots of these anomalous incidents taken from the actual footage recorded live, as they happened.  The presentations are in the order of occurance.

Event 1  3:54AM (CST) 19 October, 2000

Here is a view of the Z-1 Truss at night on 19 October, 2000.   This is before the appearance of the anomally which is in the next shot.
The light source is the flood lamp, mounted on the Camera which rides Shuttle's Canadian built robot arm.

In this shot, the anomally which appeared suddenly, can be seen circled to the left of the Truss.
These S-Band still pictures, as broadcast by NASA, are refreshed about every 20 to 25 seconds.

This is the last shot in the sequence.  The object is no longer extant.  It was only visible, therefore, for approximately 20 to 30 seconds.
After this scene, the camera was panned and zoomed for close-ups of various parts of the ISS.
However, in a mere 15 minutes time, the same object was back.  And this time, it stayed in sight for a while.

Event 2  4:19 AM (CST) 19 October, 2000

Except for the fact that the camera has panned downward from it's previous position, we are seeing the same view as before.
The anomaly has yet to appear.

The object has just emerged from behind the Truss structure.
The object has just emerged from behind the Truss structure.

The object can be seen to have moved from left to right just a short distance since the last S-Band shot.
These pictures refresh every 20 to 30 seconds.

The object continues on it's way toward the right side of the screen.
The object continues on it's way toward the right side of the screen.

Still further to the right of the screen.
Still further to the right of the screen.

The object is still further to the right.   In this sequence of still shots the light source is the risen sun.
The viewer can see that there is a difference in the shadows.

Now the object has moved almost all the way to the right.  Note that the speed has remained even throughout.
The motion observed precludes it's being the Moon, planets, or stars.  What it is a mystery to this writer.
Since the crew were sleeping, and there was no action being taken at this time,
there is no known reason for anything like ice or debris to be launched at this angle, or speed.
The object emerged from behind the Truss, so it is too far away to be a tiny ice chip.

Last look at the anomaly.   It is just about to pass out of view to the right.
Note also that the camera has been panning to the left in this shot,
as if someone in Houston noticed the object at last, and is taking steps to get it out of the field.

The object is now gone from sight.  But it, or something with the same appearance will be back in 12 minutes time.   On the event 3 in the series of 19 October, 2000.

Event 3   4:33 AM (CST) 19 October, 2000
Event 3   4:33 AM (CST) 19 October, 2000

It is now 4:33 AM (CST), and as can be seen, Discovery is high over the east coast of Argentina.
It is still some 45 minutes until crew wake up call.  It is early morning in Shuttle's location.

Note the arrow pointing at what seems to be the same orb shaped object which was seen in the last two events.
There are also solar lens flares in the picture, but the mystery orb is moving independently of these.

This time the object is not moving in a straight line, nor is it traversing at an even speed
.

The object is moving toward the right now.   It started out moving from the lower right diagonally to the upper left.
No ice chip or piece of debris does this.

Ah yes, NASA's stock answer to disturbing phenomenon.   Change the camera angle, and point in a new direction.
They sure do seem to want to hide these occurances.
Event 4  4:47 AM (CST) 19 October, 2000
Event 4  4:47 AM (CST) 19 October, 2000

Discovery is now just off the coast of South Africa.  More S-band TV images were being downlinked.
Here we see a portion of the Shuttle's payload bay.

It is 20 to 25 seconds since the last shot.  The crew will be asleep for another half hour, and there is no activity aboard Discovery.
Yet, there is a shadow suddenly appearent to the left side of the picture.  What could have cast this shadow??
It doesn't appear in the previous shot, nor in the next, which is 20 to 25 seconds away.
Satellites are carefully avoided by Shuttle on orbit.
It is a major error when anything man-made passes within 50 miles of the Shuttle, or Space Station.
Whatever cast this shadow, is very nearby.  Very strange indeed.

This last shot has no shadow in sight.   It is only 20 to 25 seconds since we saw the shadow.
That indicates that the solid object which made the shadow was a very quick moving one.
The camera has panned to a slightly different view.   Did someone at Houston notice, and try to avoid showing us what passed by?
I wonder what was going on during the hour between 3:54 and 4:47 AM (CST) on October 19, 2000.
I am confident that NASA will not tell us.
